If you're involved (even as a consumer) in the music business, This Is Huge!

Why is this going to be such a big deal? I know who the Radioheads and I know the site actually went down because it couldn't handle the traffic. . .but why? What's so big about this?

It's big because Radiohead is one of the biggest bands in the world (best selling). Talk to any major group/artist and they will all tell that they despise doing business with the record companies. Radiohead is sticking it to the man by going independant, and if it works ( and it almost surely will) it will set a presedent for the other major groups/artists.

Only the big groups/artists will be able to this at first because they'll still make enough money to make it worth their while, but it could really shake the entire music industry up from top to bottom.

This is good for consumers and good for the artists. It's very bad for the record companies. The only reason we have to pay $15+ for a CD and $1 for an mp3 is because of the record companies. Radiohead will still make money even if they sell for just a few bucks a pop.

If (and I think when) this catches on, others probably won't do the name-your-own-price...but, they will be able to sell for way less than they are now.
